How does it work?

Since the eggdrop bot is a program, it needs to be COMPILED, to work. The eggdrop bot was written to perform on the UNIX operating system. Although a version does exist for windows it does not have the powers and function that the Unix version does, nor the ability to stay online for extended service due to user connections, rotating IP addressing, etc. Once the eggdrop bot is COMPILED, a standard setup configuration file must be edited and filled out with all the necessary information that the bot will need. This includes it's name, the channels it will hang out on, the servers it will use, the add-on modules it will load, and the basic forms of how it will act for you, it's master. Once this configuration is completed, the bot is then "launched", allowing it to make it's appearance on the IRC network. The bot is now considered "born", and is waiting to be commanded and trained you, it's master, what to do, much like a child.

The SATEXAS Advantage

SATEXAS is a "shell provider" that allows bots. For various pricing, we rent out shell accounts that will run the eggdrop bot. The customer purchases the unix account for the specific task of installing, and running, an eggdrop bot. A shell provider, like SATEXAS, is necessary if you plan on running a stable bot. Since your bot is compiled and launched on the SATEXAS system, the bot is running on the SATEXAS servers, using up SATEXAS memory and CPU, and running on the SATEXAS internet pipeline, giving it a very fast and stable home. This also means that since the SATEXAS connection is a permanent connection, the bot will stay/live on IRC 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, until the server reboots (Requring the bot to be re-launched). This is extremely important to bot owners and users, who use the bot to protect the owners interests and concerns.

This process is quite an easy one. SATEXAS has grown to a very large size over the years, and gets more and more "newbies" every month. Seeing this trend, and the amount of staffing time spend on teaching our new customers, we have gone to great lengths to provide you with these detailed web pages of instructions, education, and resources. We have also developed an "internal pre-compiled" bot, taking out the most ardous tasks of the eggdrop account : Uploading the code, unpacking the code, and compiling the code. Instead, we have a simple little command that the new user runs, and it builds the eggdrop bot into his account, making it so that most all the beginning steps are skipped, and he only needs to configure the bot's configuration (personality) file. This also allows us to "take care" of the bot via patches and updates. Once we patch/update the internal bot with bug fixes, etc, all users enjoy these instant upgrades.
