IMPORTANT : As of August 2001, SATEXAS now requires that users utilize a secure telnet, SSH when accessing it's servers.

   SSH
Description : SSH is a secure protocol variant of Telnet, used for communication SATEXAS equipment that allows you to log into a machine or system across the internet, without actually sitting in front of it physically.

Explained : You are at a remote location, somewhere across the internet at a computer, connected to the internet. Our system, in which you have an account, is located far away in San Antonio, Texas (USA), and also attached to the internet (permanently). You need to log into our system, and use your account, but you can't possibly reach the monitor and keyboard attached to our server. This is what SSH/Telnet is for. Our systems allow a SSH connection, which is extremely commonplace on the internet. What the SSH (Telnet) protocol does, is allow you to run a program on your computer, and remotely attach to the SATEXAS server as if you were actually sitting in front of it - keyboard, monitor and all.

Remember : SSH/Telnet is not a graphical remote windows display. It's command line, very much like letting your neighbor log into your system, and walk around in DOS.

Tutorial : We have an online tutorial and troubleshooting guide for you here at SATEXAS. You can find that tutorial HERE.
