| I use CABLE/DSL, I can't send mail. |
Many Cable & DSL Providers have made the choice to start filtering the mail port 25. Basically, all mail traffic on your connection is monitored and any traffic that is outbound (SMTP) mail that is NOT destined to be delivered by their servers, is being blocked (rejected). Meaning you can't send to mail servers directly that aren't on Cable/DSL.
This is generally done when an ISP can not adequately control their spam problem as users on their systems get infected PC's infected with Viruses which in turn start sending out large amounts of spam without the owner's knowledge (what Viruses and Trojans do) and getting the provider in trouble with spam watching systems that then blacklist their network IP addresses.
This means you need to start using the standard Authenticated sending method. Follow these steps:
- Change your Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) to the same as your Incoming (POP3) Mail Server
- Turn Authentication ON (IE check the "my server requires authentication" option or similar)
- Find your SMTP Port listed as "25", and change it to "587". You can find this option usually on the OPTIONS tab.
