This guide will walk you through the setup and instructions for configuring your PC to dial-up SATEXAS and connect using the standard PPP Connection.
REQUIREMENTS
- An SATEXAS Account
- A printout of our "Configuration Settings" support page
- Windows 95 Installed (And possibly the CD on-hand)
- Dial-UP Networking Installed
If you do not see the dial-up networking icons that we refer to in your My Computer group, you will need to go to the control panel, click on Add/Remove Programs and select it in Windows Setup.
I. Configure Dial-Up Networking
- Close all current running applications.
- Double-click on the 'My Computer' icon on your desktop.
- Double-click on the 'Dial-Up Networking' yellow folder.
- Double-click on the 'Make New Connection' icon inside.
- Under "Type a name..", chose a name, like 'SATEXAS'.
Click 'Next'.
- In the Telephone Number selection, enter our phone number (found on the Configuration Settings sheet you printed out.
Click 'Next'.
- You have completed the setup, click on 'Finish'.
II. Create Shortcut & Configure Auto-Redial
- While still in Dial-Up Networking, right-click on the new connection we created one time (to get a menu), then select 'Create Shortcut'.
- It will give you a warning mentioning the desktop, select 'YES'. This puts the icon out on your main screen desktop.
- Click on the new connection icon again, but one time with the left-mouse button, to hightlight it.
- On the pull-down menus above, click on 'Connections' and then 'Settings'.
- Check 'Redial' and set it for 99 Times, 0 Minutes, 3 Seconds. This tells it to try up to 99 times, and allowing 3 seconds between tries to let the modem reset.
- You are finished, close all windows.
To connect to SATEXAS, you will double-click the icon on your desktop. When it comes up, please erase the information that is used by default, and enter in your SATEXAS login name and password into the blanks. We also suggest you choose the Save Password option.
Important Note: Before doing the following section, we ask you to try connecting to SATEXAS. Most users will not need to perform the TCP/IP section below in order to complete connection. We ask that this section be completed only if the PC has trouble connecting.
III. TCP/IP Networking
- Close all current running applications.
- In the white window The following components are installed you should see :
- Client for Microsoft Networks
- Dial-Up Adapter
- TCP/IP --> Dial-Up Adapter
TCP/IP Missing? - Click 'Add', select 'Protocol', 'Microsoft' then TCP/IP. A driver will be installed, your CD might be needed, and the system will need to be rebooted when prompted.
- Any other listings are optional - do not remove them
- Click once on 'TCP/IP --> Dial-Up Adapter' to highlight it.
- Click on the button labeled 'Properties'.
- 7 Folders will appear. Please fill them out as follows :
(If only 6 folders show, ignore the settings for the 7th)
- Bindings : All items checked.
- Gateway : Enter gateway using our configuration sheet.
- DNS Configuration : Enter in both addresses using configuration sheet.
Enabled, Host=login name, Domain=satexas.com
- IP Address : Select Obtain Automatically.
- WINS Configuration : Select Disabled.
- Advanced : No changes.
- NetBIOS : No changes.
- Click on 'Ok', and the computer will prompt for reboot. Reboot computer.
