This tutorial will show you the basics on how to use the CUTEFTP v4.x FTP program to upload and download files from SATEXAS servers,
and the internet in basic form.
I. Launching The Program
When you first launch the CUTEFTP program, you should be at the main Site Manager screen as shown above.
We will need to make a profile for this connection, so click the NEW button below to create an entry.
II. Creating A Profile
On this screen, we will need to make many entries as shown in the picture above.
- Where you see Type In A Name Here;, choose a name for this connection. This is just a name to know this connection profile by, and serves no other purpose than a place-name.
Once you choose a name, it will also appear in the box on the right labeled Label For Site.
- Where you see FTP HOST ADDRESS, you need to the the IP Address of the server, or the name of the server which you are connecting to.
If you have SATEXAS Domain Hosting (We are hosting your domain), put in www.yourdomain.com in the blank, where yourdomain.com is the name of your domain.
- The account User Name needs to go in the FTP site User Name blank.
- Type in your account password in the FTP site Password blank.
- At the bottom, under Login type. choose NORMAL if it's not automatically selected.
Click Connect when the above is completed. This will connect you!
III. Creating A Profile
You are now connected and ready to move files back and forth from your PC to the Internet Server! Below are some notes and explanations of your connection :
- The Status Windows, or Activity Window, shows you that you are currently connected, and scrolls the activity you generate.
- The window on the left, labeled SIDE A is considered Local, or your hard drives on your PC. This is similar to windows file manager.
- The window on the right is the directory tree of the internet server which you have connected to.
- If you are going to upload a website on the SATEXAS servers, you need to find the Document Root directory, also referred to as your main web directory.
- On SATEXAS, this normally is a directory called /public_html, or /mydomain.com if you have domain hosting.
- To Upload files, or send them to the server, select them in the left-hand window, and choose the big UP arrow as shown in the picture.
- To Download files, or receive files from the server, select them in the right-hand window, and choose the big DOWN arrow as sown in the picture.
